The investment into documenting your best day ever is significant. It starts with an extensive mission of Googling, wowing over IG feeds and pouring over the latest bridal magazines. When it comes to hiring a photography and videography team, you might be wondering if it is better to hire them together.
There are many advantages to hiring a team of creatives to cover the photography and videography together.
When you hire one team (photo and video), everyone works together. Everyone arrives at the venue and meets up to talk before starting the getting ready part of the day. They decide how the workflow will go for the day and it’s important to start the day off in an effortless yet organized way.
For example, if the couple is getting ready in rooms that are small or with a lot of friends and family already there, it could make sense for the team to split. The photography team might go to the bride’s room while the video team goes to the groom’s room. Then they might swap over. This means your rooms won’t be overcrowded with people and you are having more moments documented at one time. Other times, they might decide it’s best to stay together, which might be due to schedules or logistics.
If you have the same hours of coverage for both services, the work is done efficiently and easily. If the hours of coverage are different (for example, you book 10 hours of photography and eight hours of videography), it is fine. But if you can make the hours match, it is better.
As a wedding videographer, I think I speak for all of us in the industry when I say it is easier to work with people you know. When we are shooting, we are doing our best not to have any staff in the images. We don’t want to get a wonderful moment of video footage with a photographer in the background. Of course, sometimes it’s unavoidable. But when we work together, often we can anticipate what the other team members will do. We know their patterns of shooting and it helps us produce better work.
There is also the issue of flow. If two teams might not have worked together before, it can take time to find the groove. When we have our regular wedding cinematography and photo team on duty, we have each other’s backs. If someone needs a ladder for some aerial shots or needs staff informed of something urgently, we are there to help each other.
Another plus side to booking your wedding photo and video package together is price discounts. Many companies offer a discount or added complimentary services and who doesn’t need a few more dollars in the wedding kitty? A major reason for this incentive is that companies prefer to work with their own team. It is easier to stay out of each other’s way and make sure the other person is present for all of the important events. All of this is better for the couple.
My wife and I are now offering Video Photo Packages. We have an 8 hour package that is 40% less than if you booked of separately.
